Partnered with Aria Health to create a sizing pathway UI for their end-to-end lymphedema care system.
The goal was to remove one of the most persistent friction points in lymphedema management: the process of getting correctly fitted for compression therapy. The result was a clean, intuitive app/desktop interface on Aria’s website that takes patients from measurement to garment recommendation in three steps.

UI for fitting guide

Overview
Aria Health engaged Virtuo to design and develop a digital garment fitting guide. A streamlined, self-serve experience enabling lymphedema patients to accurately measure, size, and purchase their compression garment without clinical assistance.
The goal was to remove one of the most persistent friction points in lymphedema management: the process of getting correctly fitted for compression therapy. The result was a clean, intuitive app interface that takes patients from measurement to garment recommendation in three steps.
Frame
Compression garment therapy is the cornerstone of lymphedema maintenance. It’s worn daily for life. Yet the path to getting fitted is anything but simple.
The core barriers patients face:
Access to trained fitters is scarce - certified lymphedema therapists are in short supply, and many patients live outside major centres
Incorrect sizing leads to poor outcomes - an ill-fitting garment either fails to provide therapeutic compression or causes discomfort significant enough that patients stop wearing it altogether
Compliance drops without confidence - patients who don't understand their garment are less likely to use it consistently, escalating the risk of disease progression and hospitalisation
Resupply is a recurring burden - garments have a 12-month lifespan and must be replaced regularly, yet each reorder often restarts the same slow fitting process
Without a reliable, accessible way to self-measure and self-select, patients were either over-reliant on clinical visits for routine resupply or - worse - purchasing incorrect garments independently and experiencing treatment failure as a result.
Our Approach
Virtuo approached the fitting guide as a patient experience design challenge, not just a sizing tool. The work was shaped across three areas:
1. Simplifying the Clinical Into the Accessible The clinical sizing process for compression garments involves multiple precise measurements. Virtuo distilled this into a three-input model - ankle circumference, thigh circumference, and limb length - chosen because they capture the critical variables for a lower-limb garment without requiring clinical expertise to measure.
2. Interface Design for Confidence Each screen was designed to reduce friction and build trust at every step. Clear measurement illustrations guide users through the process, and the results screen delivers a definitive, confirmed recommendation - size, fit status, and extender compatibility - using visual confirmation cues that leave no ambiguity.
3. Embedding the Fitting Guide Within a Broader Platform The fitting tool was designed as one module within Aria's connected app ecosystem - sitting alongside features including a Usage Tracker, Education Tutorials, Seamless Device Connection, and a Treatment History log. The fitting guide wasn't a standalone utility; it was the entry point into ongoing patient engagement.
Outcome
Virtuo delivered a fully designed digital fitting guide embedded within the Aria companion app — enabling patients to accurately size and purchase their compression garment independently, from any device.
Key features of the fitting guide:
Three-step measurement flow — Ankle, Thigh, and Length inputs with illustrated guidance for each measurement
Instant size recommendation — clear Medium / Medium result screen with per-measurement validation checkmarks and automatic extender inclusion flags
Direct-to-purchase pathway — a single Buy Now CTA from the results screen, reducing steps between fit confirmation and resupply
Size range visibility — Small, Medium, and Large options surfaced with garment colour and chamber configuration details for informed decision-making
Outcomes delivered:
Eliminated dependency on clinical visits for routine garment sizing and resupply
Reduced barriers to compression therapy access for patients outside major centres
Created a scalable, repeatable resupply journey that supports long-term compliance — the single most important predictor of positive outcomes in lymphedema maintenance therapy
Positioned Aria not as a garment brand, but as a connected care platform patients return to throughout their treatment journey
