Creating startups and incubating new ideas with our partners

Building anything new from scratch requires unique skills, experience, and a different approach to managing an established business.

Business is changing so fast, in a world that is ripe for disruption, where the unknowns can outweight the knowns, maintaining the status quo is likely going to result in failure. This is both exciting and challenging, and it is often associated with an inherent belief that things can be done better.

At Virtuo, we work with partners to identify opportunities that meet latent unmet customer needs and provide a developmental edge that gives a new venture a head start over established players. We work with bootstrapping start ups as well as corporate venturing programmes, to help navigate through uncertainly, build a transformational approach, and develop disruptive new solutions - that change things for the better.

/ Our Approach

People approach us to be involved in new ventures because their unique situation is giving rise to a special project that has an un-normal degree of stretch and strong need for new knowledge, and a degree of confidence tis needed to take the right approach. We bring an unencumbered, innovative, highly collaborative approach that is focused on speed.

If you are looking to stray from the status quo, abandon doing things the way they have also been done, or you are stepping outside to start something entirely new, there is always an element of risk. Anything new and different is risky but necessary.

Getting started & framing the opportunity

An early-stage startups begin with a novel idea that has the potential to scale. At Virtuo, we help you get started and explore the merits of your thinking by building a solid foundation. Our development process is divided into four key steps, Frame, Position, Shape and then Make. Getting started is all about framing where there an opportunity to create value.

Seed funding & venture capital

New ventures generally require funding and capital to develop. Over the last twenty years we have been involved in helping many companies raise funding successfully. In early stage projects, the quality of the idea and it’s demonstrated potential are significant factors in generating investment interest, supported by a robust business model.

Validating the value proposition

Once we have framed the opportunity, we work to position the core value proposition effectively. Positioning considers the Desirability, Feasibility, Viability of the opportunity. A desirable solution is one that your customer really needs. Feasibility considers the degree of difficulty for it to be implemented. And Viability assesses whether it can be successful, economically and in other ways.

Wrap-around mentoring and coaching

Mentoring and coaching is a common service delivery where we help founders build knowledge and transfer skills. We have alot of experience guiding organisations through new ventures. For the last six years we have provided active design coaching via New Zealand Trade & Enterprise to several leading New Zealand startups and export companies.

Our rigours approach and unwavering attention to detail helps focus efforts on where the new opportunity value lies.

Launch & scale at pace

How fast you can get to market can determine the success of your new idea and whether it stays ahead of its competition. Delivering your product before your competitors can give you first mover advantage and can help you develop a reputation and increase your value. Failing fast is a mindset we use to quickly fail ideas early, to speed up getting to market fast.
